African Continental Free Trade Agreement: Africa’s Path to Borderless Trade

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) entered into force on May 30, 2019, and was officially launched in July 2019 at the AU Assembly in Niamey, Niger. After years of negotiations since 2012, this agreement stands as one of the flagship projects of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.

With 55 countries, 1.4 billion people, and a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion, AfCFTA aims to:
➡️ Eliminate trade barriers across Africa
➡️ Boost intra-African trade, especially in value-added goods
➡️ Expand opportunities in digital trade, investment, and industrial growth

The question now: Can AfCFTA unlock Africa’s full economic potential and reshape global trade?
